Hot Mamba, part deux

To finish off the new pedals, I ordered two different sets of tools, one for on-the-road repairs and one for the home shop. The cleats are mounted on using Torx-drive (star) bolts, T-10, and my computer repair set of Torx drivers was just not up to the task of busting them loose (yay Loktite!). Two sets is overkill maybe, but that’s the way I roll. Plus, the BB-7 disc brakes use a T-25 to adjust. The on-the-road tool has a T-10/T-20/T-25 combo, so now I’m prepared for any minor brake problems on the road as well.

Friday, the road kit set arrived (and the other was canceled, out of stock) and I was able to flip round the cleats and swap axles, and fit the shoes, on what should’ve been a perfect day for a test ride. Perfect except bread happened.

Beautiful sunny day, warm, and I didn’t even get any gardening done, or the shortest of test rides, because the starter wants what the starter wants. Ah well.

Then the weather went back to chilly and wet for days, which allowed me time to replace my rear derailleur cable, adjust the brakes, shorten the chain a few links to adjust for removing the chain tubes (a benefit of replacing the chain idler), and tweak some things on the back of the seat. There’s a LOT of room on the back of a recumbent seat; mine holds a tool kit, spare tubes, tube patch kit, frame pump, two water bottle cages, and a dual 2-liter water bladder kit. Again, overkill and over-prepared, but better safe than sorry.

Anyway, I’m just about completely satisfied with every aspect of the trike now. Which is not to say that there aren’t still future upgrade plans, but those are mostly major expense drivetrain upgrades. That’s for after the driveway is replaced, hopefully this summer (the driveway that is).
